December 2011 ATCA "Happenings"

  • There are a couple of new products on the ATCA shopping cart including the 2010 ATCA Yearbook. Only limited quantities are available. Take a look at the new items with Abbey and the Tadpole. The holidays are approaching, order your holiday items now.
  • From the ATCA Health Committee: Its Flu season.......hopefully you got your flu vaccine, but did you know that dogs can also get the flu? There have been a considerable cases already this year (tends to be less seasonal than human flu's) but many veterinary offices are requiring the "flu shot" before dogs are boarded. For more information contact your veterinarian and check out this link! Be mindful of dog-popular places like the dog park, pet shopping stores. A case of the flu can be fatal for older dogs.
  • Reservations for MCKC 2012 are now being accepted at the MCKC host hotel, The Hyatt Summerfield Suites, Plymouth Park. The Hotel will be under new management and plans are underway to refurbish the rooms and to add a bar/restaurant to the facilities! The room rates for ATCA members will be: One Bedroom Suite - $141.00, Two Bedroom Suite - $181.00, One Bedroom Suite with two double beds - $141.00 and Trio Suite - $191.00. The one time pet deposit is $50.00. The reservation number is 610-313-9990. To access these reduced rates, please ask for the 'Black and Tan' block of rooms.

  • From our ATCA Legislative Chair: The Puppy Uniform Prevention and Safety Act, PUPS, is legislation on a Federal level and will affect all of us. PUPS has gained much legislative support through HSUS behind the scenes manipulations and must be stopped. The best way to stop this bill is for YOU to write your legislators. When negative legislation is proposed or adopted, it affects and alters the time and energy devoted to positive events as efforts are diverted to protecting our freedoms and those of our animals. It is extremely important to halt the negative influences of animal rights organizations so that energy can be devoted to all the beneficial effects that our animals can bring, such as having events that promote responsible dog ownership, etc. like showing our communities the countless types of work that our dogs are capable of doing. Send E-Mails to your respective Members of Congress that politely ask that they suspend judgment and action on the PUPS Bill (H.R. 5434 and S. 3424) until questions are fully vetted in a Committee Hearing CaRPOC. These links provide more information and sample letters. I would also thank your legislators that have not signed on:
